Awareness Into Action strives to be a competent and trustworthy Sherpa to leaders and organizations who need help on their expedition to become a Certified B Corporation (Certified B Corporation 101). Often,  a leader or team lacks time, knowledge, expertise, processes, and resources to apply toward becoming a Certified B Corporation. They want to make the climb, but are inexperienced or short handed, so they want to engage an experienced outfitter who will equip and prepare them for the journey and then, step-by-step, expertly guide them to the summit. That’s how I am of general service,  all the while providing unwavering and dedicated support on the journey.

In a vehicle/driver analogy,  I view the Certified B Corporation (and its legal complement, the Benefit Corporation) as the vehicle and Conscious Business as the driver. One provides intelligence and direction while the other provides an engineered mechanical means of mobility. A car goes nowhere without the driver (at least until recently) and the driver’s ability to get around is greatly enhanced by the car. Similarly, in my thinking,  the B Corporation enables and makes operational the consciousness of Conscious Business, which provides intelligence and purposeful direction to the B Corporation.

I believe to become a Certified B Corporation an existing company must already be practicing Conscious Business. That is, it must already possess the values and be living them. Otherwise,  the Certified B Corporation form becomes empty shell. Becoming a Certified B Corporation (and Benefit Corporation) is, in my opinion, the best way for a conscious company to strengthen its commitment and propel the business to its next level.
